» Tooth decay is the most common preventable chronic childhood disease, 5 times more common than asthma. I think this is main sound bite we should use and build from this.

» Dental disease restricts activities in school and home and often significantly diminishes the quality of life for many children.

» In school-age children and adolescents, chronic dental problems can lead to reduced school performance, poor self-image, lack of concentration, and absenteeism.

» Approximately 51 million school hours per year are lost because of dental-related illness.

» Early tooth loss caused by dental decay can result in failure to thrive, impaired speech development, absence from and the inability to concentrate in school, reduced self-esteem, poor social relationships, and less success in later life.

» Children who take a test while they have a toothache are less likely to score as well as children who are undistracted by pain.
